Pie Tin
Early on I was a fan of science fiction movies. Each Saturday afternoon, after the early morning cartoons, breakfast, post breakfast cartoons and the Sugar Corn Pops sugar high crash, when all hope for any excitement was almost lost and especially on days when it rained…something magical happened. The local ultra-high frequency television station would play horror and science fiction movies from noon – four. From noon to two was “Creature Feature”, showcasing all the old Boris Karloff and Read the rest of this entry »

More easy dinner recipes
Tonight’s dinner was awesome. I’ve been trying to add to my assortment of meals I can easily prepare. In the interest of not taking a lot of time, spending a lot of money, but getting a fairly nutritious and tasty dish, here is what I made – Bar-B-Que style chicken, in the oven. It only took an hour and was quite good. I’ve had this many times but never stuck my head in the kitchen to see what was going on, so I had no idea how simple it really is to pull off. Now that I know Read the rest of this entry »

Clock radio
This was a haunting melody for the early years. As I would go to sleep at night, a fixed FM broadcast, in my case WFYV Rock 105, would play popular rock from my blue LED clock radio. As a child I found the mood of this song scary, with bits of relief here and there – always returning to a wandering assessment of guitar-vocal answer/calls. Time well spent watching this video…

Hi I’m Quique and I was born a head. Now, after 27 years doctors say I could be “assembled” into a body, so I made this website to find myself a proper one. Please, be kind, help me :)

IKEA fontlift
Rude awakening
Well apparently it’s never a good idea to leave well enough alone. IKEA has changed their font from the geometrical and sturdy German designed Futura, a typeface that lasted them over 5 decades, to the screen display oriented and more easily readable in small point sizes: Verdana.

Derivation
Named from the linguistic amalgamation of the Washington being “Verdant” or the evergreen state, and name of the fonts’ creators daughter, Ana, Verdana has been around since 1996. Due to it’s free distribution Read the rest of this entry »

Ritual becomes affectation
It started when I was about 6. My grandmother would make Sanka instant coffee. We also kept those tall brown glass jars of Coffeemate® with the metal screw on lids. I liked those because if you tore the inner paper label all the way off, you could get it spinning really fast when you put it back on to close the jar. Anyway, this is where my ritual started. She would come over in the morning and make her coffee…she would, prepare, it. The hot water, the teaspoon measuring the scoops of Sanka®, the stirring, then the aforementioned coffee whitener. All steps in a ritual leading to this ultimate addiction. And that was only decaf. Following that I learned Read the rest of this entry »

Humble beginnings
Growing up in Jacksonville, FL…one of the staple items always on sale at Winn Dixie was Hamburger Helper. This was pretty much my favorite dinner. I’d have to say the Hamburger Lasagne was top rated. A close second was the Tuna Helper with the rich creame sauce and sweetness of the green peas.

Good food re-invented
Early on we decided to try some of this, in order attempt to deconstruct the recipe in hopes of a more healthy version. Here is what we arrived at. 2 jars of Alfredo sauce
This is not as specific a requirement – I’ve found the more simple the better…you don’t want cheese, mushrooms etc competing with the natural flavor

One box of pasta
The shells or tubes are good because they hold more of the sauce. The best pasta for this is Gluten Free, Brown Rice Pasta, it just works better than anything else I’ve tried. Yum!

1 bag of frozen broccoli or peas
2 cans of tuna or salmon
